Apple has a patent on using an iPhone for opening a door. See report from gizmag.

I’m really wondering how Apple could get a patent? The process is described already since years:

Telenor’s mobile key (mkey) project (2002-2003)

Implementation of NFC reader as plugin to mobile phone. Developed by EPSYS and Telenor R&I in 2004.

The modem will deliver seamless data access in 4G, 3G and 2G networks.

Telenor and Tele 2 will be the first to offer a tripple-mode LTE, HSPA and GSM modem for their customers in Sweden. The modem is the Huawei E398 modem according to Gizmag, and will deliver seamless data access in 4G, 3G and 2G networks.

I’m interested to see the “seamless” handover, whether it is really a connect before break or rather a break and reconnect. My assumption is that the modem will only connect to a 4G network if the quality of the network is high enough. But what happens if you move? Is there really a handover back to 3G, or will you just experience a short time-off until you get reconnected to 3G.

Why do I have an Android? First of all because I do not like that Apple decides which applications I am allowed to install on my phone – unacceptable. I’d rather prefer asking someone to develop exactly what I need and install it on Android. Here are the applications that I like best on my Android:

HereIAm, an application that shows where you are (even without GPS) and send it straight on with SMS or email. Brilliant, turn the iPhone that does not let you have access to loka APIs.

Maverick, which uses OpenStreetMap and download them to SD cards. Before you go on vacation, “visit site” with Maverick and you have all the maps with you. – Bought a pay version 2.95 $ from web

Norgeskart, topographic maps from all areas in Norway, including the sea

Copilot Live navigation program for the Android. You need to ask a friend from Europe to lend your SIM card, then you can buy it on Android. £ 450 to all maps of Europe, and they are on the SD card. Even the photo boxes, you can download.

Opera Mini, the fast WEB browser. When you want to extract some info from the web is much faster than with Safari browser

Endomondo, my training diary. Sign ski and bike workout and upload it to endomondo.com

Stream Furious, my Internet radio

DroidWiki, my notebook with links between the notes. – I’m missing sync with PC

Handsent SMS - Replaces the standard SMS by bringing messages that pop up

And my favorit widgets

YR.no, to see the weather where I am – it retrieves the position from the mobile network and are looking for the weather on that position. Thanks to NRK two MET.no

CalWidget – lean and clean, shows me in a 2×2 my next appointments

GPS, Bluetooth, Wifi – easy to turn off and on

Advanced Task Manager – turn off all applications

Toggle Screen Timeout – let the monitor stand on, really well when I use the mobile phone as navigation in the car
And then there are a lot more, TuneWiki-Media, Layar, TripIT, …

And these are applications I look forward to get. Do you have any ideas, send me tips

“Privacy protection”: Turn off WLAN and Bluetooth on and off depending on location. Example: WLAN is turned on only when I get home or are on the job.

Sync between Apple and the MAC – a big part of my contacts will be duplicated after a sync with google. Hopeless.

Today, February 3, 2010 was the day … I had updated a number of applications on my HTC Hero, and half of them did not work any longer. Sad story! Finally I needed to flash the software on my Android Hero. The first frustration: There is no Android update SW for the Mac. I really had to start a windows PC. Real downturn.Otherwise, quite nice: Downloads the ROM update from www.htc.com/no under customer services, ran the application and within 3 minutes the update was performed, from 1.76.405 to 2.73.405.5 – simply and easily. Was quite happy, until I started the phone again:All user data were deleted. The mobile phone was completely blank. Crisis! It’s probably written somewhere in some place, but who reads instructions? And even worse: All my applications are gone! My SMS, contacts, maps, my navigation, all my data. – Google, you need to have an “automated update to the SD card”!

You really have to pay to be in the forefront of technology.

The update took me 3 min, to re-create the data/theme/applications took the rest of the night. Everything on the SD card was still in place, but where were my applications? Everything needed to be downloaded again
